INTERNSHIPS

College-Level Music Therapy Internship

Hands in Harmony offers a comprehensive clinical internship for undergraduate and graduate music therapy students seeking board certification. Our internship is rooted in neuroscience and evidence-based practice and is designed to prepare students to become compassionate, competent, and innovative clinicians.

Interns at Hands in Harmony receive hands-on training in a wide range of settings including schools, hospitals, homes, long-term care facilities, and clinics. In addition to clinical experience, interns also participate in interdisciplinary collaboration, administrative responsibilities, program development, and advocacy. This internship fulfills AMTA requirements and includes direct supervision, structured mentorship, weekly supervision meetings, and opportunities for independent facilitation as students progress.

 

Internship highlights include:

  • 1200-hour AMTA-aligned training experience

  • Diverse clinical populations and settings

  • Supervised co-lead and independent sessions

  • Weekly song swaps, case studies, and clinical documentation

  • Final project and mock CBMT exam

  • Structured mentorship and peer collaboration

  • Exposure to nonprofit operations and program development

Application Requirements:

  • Completed application form

  • Cover letter

  • Resume

  • Three video submissions 

  • Two letters of recommendation

High School internship Program

We also offer an internship program for high school students who are interested in exploring music therapy as a career path. This is a non-clinical, observation-based internship that introduces students to the field through shadowing opportunities, administrative tasks, creative projects, and learning experiences within our clinic and community programs.

 

Ideal for students who are:

  • Passionate about music and helping others

  • Exploring careers in health, wellness, or human services

  • Interested in learning about neuroscience and the therapeutic applications of music

Opportunities include:

  • Observing music therapy sessions (where appropriate)

  • Participating in and developing creative projects

  • Learning about the nonprofit field and interdisciplinary care

  • Exposure to clinical documentation and music-based research
